With one or two notable exceptions, why do US war movies portray the US military in a glowing halo of innocence, and whitewash their many atrocities? Or credit them with heroic actions that other nations actually carried out (such as obtaining a decoding machine from a sinking U boat, as in U571)? Is it any wonder that people in the USA are so ignorant of history when Hollywood rewrites it so often? From The Deer Hunter to Hurt Locker, the same twisting of the truth is ped off as reality.
