I have a 1996 Perrier- Jouet fleur de champagne sitting in my wine fridge- drink or hold?

I bought a bottle of 1996 Perrier-Jouet Fleur de Champagne which I had bought for my boyfriend and I a few years ago, and we have yet to drink it. I am concerned it is now past it's prime or may soon be-- is there anyone out there who knows a good resource to find if we should make an evening special by having it ASAP or whether it is safe to hold for a special occasion?
